Marine Bells - Ships Bells To Go app for iPhone and iPad
Marine Bells is a time-keeping application using the long-established series of bell-strikes known as Ships Bells. The bell rings every half hour in a repeating 4-hour sequence (see the Bell Schedule screen shot).
An iTunes "Featured App" in 90 countries!
Unique features:
* A working, visual analog clock that shows the current time.
* Ability to schedule a daily (or night-time) silent period.
* Display of current latitude and longitude. After all, sailors want to know their coordinates!
For centuries, Ships Bells have been used aboard navy, merchant, and other vessels. Non-sailors have discovered this as a practical way to keep time without having to look at a clock or wristwatch.
The founder and President of Skyclock company is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served aboard the USS Lexington.

Marine Bells app is a tribute to sailors on watch everywhere.
Pros and cons of Marine Bells - Ships Bells To Go app for iPhone and iPad
Marine Bells - Ships Bells To Go app good for
It would be nice to hear the chime before buying the app. I have two Chelsea clocks but wanted something in my cell. The chimes are being compared to the Chelsea clocks and are okay.
I like this app a lot! You get what you expect. The only improvement I would suggest is the ability to hear the bells without having to take the phone off of silent. Most of the time I dont have the ringer on because I dont want to hear the phone ring but still would like to hear the bells.
My favorite clock will forever be a Chelsea Ships Bell, and this app is like having one of these masterpieces with me everywhere.
The bells are authentic, the time is as precise as ones iPhone, and (aside from striking) the app is neither seen nor heard. Its easy to set a widow when the bell will be silent (e.g., overnight).
The audio clip for the bell has had just enough tweaking to often seem to be coming from a next room.
Highly recommended to all who love ships clocks.
Exactly what I was looking for. SEMPER FI! Bell tone is clear like on a ships Quarterdeck. Would be great if you added volume control for the specific app. Sound can be too loud in some situations. Like "Leatherneck 1975" suggestion too. Thanks.
This is a great app and elegantly rendered. Never-the-less, I have a few suggestions:
It took me a while to find the app on iTunes. My first try was "eight bell clock" -- that search returned nothing. I tried other searches without success, but while looking at a clock, I saw the "Marine Bells" under the heading, "Others have have looked at:" list of apps. Suggest Skylclock add other key words to improve searches.
The feature of a silence schedule is nice for such times as sleep-time. However, the "Off Time" turns off the output before that time rings so that becomes the first time a bell is not heard rather than the last bell heard. I would prefer that this characteristic be changed and the schedule be changed from "On" and "Off" to "First Bell" and Last Bell"
Some bad moments
I paid for and downloaded the app and it doesnt work. I touch the button, the screen goes black for two seconds and then right back to my home screen. Sent an email to the company and got a response asking about my phone and iOS, like I didnt check that already, havent heard from them since.
Dont waste your time and money with this app.
I purchased and downloaded this app to my iPhone 6 Plus on 12 September. It is been running for 24 hours with volume all the way up, bells unmuted, and no other app working. It has not rung one time. I wish refunds could be credited through the App Store.
The time signalled by the bells is easy to learn, as well as being interesting. The bells sound pleasant tones marking every half hour with satellite-triggered accuracy. Helps keep track of the passage of your workday without constantly having to check the time on your phone. Sailors and their friends and families will also appreciate this connection to those aboard ship.
This app provides data on longitude and latitude. The bells are fun too.
Good for on the water or off the water! Pleasant chimes toll the time every half hour.
Sounds just like my Seth Thomas. I like the way in runs in the background.
